PM Modi Celebrates Makar Sankranti by Feeding Cows at Official Residence

On the occasion of Makar Sankranti , the Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a cultural event organised by Union Minister L Murugan, celebrating Pongal and emphasising the festival's reflection of the 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' spirit.

On January 14, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the occasion of Makar Sankranti by participating in a time-honored tradition. The leader was spotted feeding cows on the lawn of his official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, a gesture that has gained attention and appreciation on social media.

In adherence to Hindu traditions, the act of feeding cows during Makar Sankranti is considered auspicious and believed to bring blessings. The images and videos capturing Prime Minister Modi engaging in this ritual have resonated with the public, showcasing a blend of spirituality and leadership.

 

'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' Spirit

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister graced a cultural event organised by Union Minister L Murugan, commemorating Pongal. During the festivities, he extended warm Pongal greetings to citizens, emphasising the festival's reflection of the 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' spirit – the idea of a united and exemplary India.

“The country celebrated the festival of Lohri yesterday. Some people are celebrating Makar Sankranti today, and some people will celebrate tomorrow. Magh Bihu is also coming. I extend my greetings to the countrymen for these festivals,” expressed Prime Minister Modi.

 

Cultural Exchange with a Personal Touch

In a heartwarming moment, Prime Minister Modi showcased his appreciation for a young girl's performance during the Pongal event by presenting her with his shawl. The gesture added a personal touch to the cultural exchange, further reflecting the leader's connection with the festivities.

Makar Sankranti Celebrations Across India

Makar Sankranti, a festival that marks the transition of the sun into the zodiac sign of Capricorn, is celebrated with diverse traditions across India. In various regions, people fly kites, exchange til-gul (sesame seeds and jaggery), and take ritualistic dips in holy rivers. The festival symbolises the harvest season and is observed with fervor and joy, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the country.
