PM Modi Pays Tribute to Bharat Ratna Awardee Chaudhary Charan Singh on National Farmers Day

Nation pays tribute to former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary, celebrated as National Farmers’ Day, honoring his legacy of rural empowerment and farmers welfare.

National Farmers Day was established to honour Chaudhary Charan Singh, who served as India's Prime Minister from 1979 to 1980.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with several Union ministers, paid heartfelt tributes to former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary, observed annually as National Farmers’ Day (Kisan Diwas) on December 23.

National Farmers Day is dedicated to honouring the invaluable contributions of farmers and recognizing their pivotal role in the nation’s progress. The day commemorates the legacy of Chaudhary Charan Singh, India’s fifth Prime Minister, a staunch advocate for the welfare of farmers and a visionary leader in rural development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid respect to the former Prime Minister through a post on X, saying:

“Humble tributes to former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Chaudhary Charan Singh ji, a true well-wisher of the poor and farmers, on his birth anniversary. His dedication and service to the nation will continue to inspire everyone.”

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also took to X to express his admiration for Chaudhary Charan Singh’s dedication to farmers. He wrote:

“I bow down to the feet of the hardworking and combative public leader, messiah of farmers, former Prime Minister of the country, 'Bharat Ratna' Chaudhary Charan Singh ji on his birth anniversary, 'National Farmers Day'!” Chouhan said.

“Your life dedicated to the upliftment of the nation and the welfare of farmers will always inspire us all for the welfare of the farmers and development of rural areas.” he added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted Chaudhary Charan Singh’s enduring legacy and his fight for democracy during the Emergency. He posted:

“Chaudhary Charan Singh Ji, who dedicated his entire life for the rights of farmers and the underprivileged, fought bravely against the anti-democracy forces during the Emergency. Through his life, he showed that even a common man can reach the highest post in the country by making service his resolution. His personality and deeds are an inexhaustible source of inspiration for every social worker.” Shah said.

“On the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and great farmer leader of the country, Bharat Ratna Chaudhary Charan Singh ji, I remember and pay my tribute to him.” he added.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized Chaudhary Charan Singh’s commitment to democracy and rural welfare. In his post on X, he said:

“I pay my tribute to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary. He worked for the welfare of the poor and farmers throughout his life. When democracy in the country was under threat, he fought with all his might to protect it. Despite travelling from land to sky, Chaudhary sahab never left his land. His contribution to India's development journey will always be remembered."

Rajnath Singh also extended his wishes for Kisan Diwas, stating: “Today the whole country is celebrating the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh Ji as 'Kisan Diwas'. I wish all the farmer brothers of the country a Happy Kisan Diwas. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, many welfare measures have been taken for the farmers from seed to market. With the inspiration of Chaudhary sahab, our resolve for farmer welfare will continue to strengthen."

Chaudhary Charan Singh’s vision for rural development and his relentless advocacy for the farming community have left an indelible mark on India’s history. National Farmers’ Day serves as a reminder of his contributions and the critical role farmers play in the nation’s growth.
