Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi today announced the Punjab Government Rozgar Guarantee for Youth (PRAGTY) scheme, which promises to create 1 lakh government jobs for youth each year, as his government seeks re-election this year. The scheme was later approved by the Cabinet.

Channi also promised free coaching for all competitive examinations, including those for the IAS, PCS, armed forces, and paramilitary services. He pledged interest-free loans for people relocating abroad as well as for launching start-ups. To further attract young voters, Channi stated that the Congress administration will offer them with interest-free loans at competitive rates to start their own businesses. Earlier in the day, the Punjab Chief Minister agreed to meet the demands of 53,000 Anganwadi workers by boosting their monthly allowance by Rs.1400.

The CM said he had been an NCC cadet in school when he joined the NCC parade with students from Lovely Professional University here.

"My opponents claim I exaggerate when it comes to myself, but it's a fact that I have NCC 'A,' 'B,' and 'C' certifications," he stated. Of the nearly half an hour that he spent on the campus, most of his time passed mingling with the students.

His security team had to hurriedly follow him up as he came off stage and rushed into the overcrowded students’ gallery. He performed bhangra with the boys and even clicked selfies on their phones.

Channi dodged questions on Punjab Congress chief Navjot Sidhu's Monday announcements, which included Rs.2000 per month financial incentive for homemakers as well as eight free LPG cylinders in a year. "What I have promised today are not simple announcements, but government guarantees that will be legitimated by way of an Act," he stated.

The CM, meanwhile, wasn’t seen adhering to Covid protocol, ignoring physical distancing and mask.
