On Tuesday, Save Soil movement was brought to Goa by Sadguru. Now, Goa became the ninth state in the country to initiate that it would conserve soil for future generations
While addressing a packed crowd of thousands of Goans, Sadguru said that soil is not our property it has come to us as a legacy and we must pass it on to future generations. In the event, Sadguru exchanged a Memorandum of understanding with Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for Soil Conservation.
Further, Sadguru added that soil is the largest living entity in the universe, supporting trillions of living beings, microorganisms. Top scientists in the world admit that they know less than 1% of something you should not mess with it. Only 40-60 years’ worth of soil is left today for agriculture. By 2045, we will be producing 40% less food, when there will be 9.5 billion people on the globe by then.
After presenting ‘Save Soil Policy Handbook’, which includes solutions that government can implement based on their local soil type, Sadguru said that if all organic content from the soil is lost, the soil is as good as sand. At least a minimum of 3% organic content should be left in the soil to grow food.
The chief minister in presence of Union minister Shripad Naik, Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik, PWD minister Nilesh Cabral, and WRD minister Subhash Shirodhkar said that they have decided to start admissions to the state agriculture college from this month itself.
