Seed Traceability System Soon to be Launched by the Govt: Agriculture Minister
Tomar stated that farmers will gain from the debut of the Seed Traceability System and that those working hard in the seeds industry would also receive assistance.
To make sure that Indian farmers are provided with good quality seeds, the government will soon launch a seed traceability system, said Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Saturday.
Addressing a two-day Indian Seed Congress organized by the National Seed Association of India in Delhi, he mentioned “This will curb the pilferage in the seed trade sector."
According to an official statement, Tomar stated at the ceremony that farmers will gain from its debut and that those working hard in the seeds industry would also receive assistance.
The government is worried about the challenges the seed industry is facing. The stakeholders' recommendations for the seed tracking system have been received, he continued.
Tomar stated that everyone working in the agricultural industry should be prepared to fulfil the future needs of both India and the rest of the globe in light of the growing population and the challenge posed by climate change.
According to Tomar, the agriculture industry in our country is thriving and is the foundation of the economy. India leads the world in agriculture, but we have a long way to go before we are self-sufficient in particular commodities, such as oilseeds and cotton.
Stakeholders in the seeds industry should help the nation become AatmaNirbhar by lowering imports. According to the statement, he asked the seed sector to create a roadmap in this direction.
In the field of agriculture, the quality of seed, development is increasing numerically; its use by the farmers and human consumption is a long journey, and the people who are participants in this journey are doing their business but at the same time, their responsibility towards mankind is also very important, which should be assumed seriously by all, said the agriculture minister.
