The reports, however, do not mention a chance of any Super Cyclone near the Indian coasts.

After a Canadian meteorological and climate Ph.D. student at Saskatchewan University predicted that a superstorm would hit the Indian shore of the Bay of Bengal, rumors about it began to circulate. Even the Super Cyclone was given a name: Sitrang.

According to top weather scientist Umashankar Dash, "The IMD suggested the formation of cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal between October 14 and October 20, although all cyclonic circulations do not take the shape of a cyclone."

"The India Meteorological Department has not issued a forecast or even a mere clue regarding the cyclone. Please don't believe the rumor, "Bhubaneshwar, the regional center of the IMD, tweeted.

"In order to offer reliable weather-related information, we are working 24 hours a day. So please don't believe rumors "it read.

According to the weather department, a cyclonic circulation is expected to emerge over the Andaman Sea on October 18 and travel toward the western Bay of Bengal before developing into a depression by October 20. The reports, however, do not mention a chance of any Super Cyclone near the Indian coasts.
