Tea Board India Working on Health-Care System for Workers in the Sector

Tea Board India said it would be designing an exceptional scheme for industry employees after the Center proposed to give rupees 1,000 crore in the budget plan for the government assistance of workers in tea estates in Assam and West Bengal.

The board said it will present the scheme to the Union ministry commerce and industry for its usage.

Nirmala Sitharaman, Union finance minister had declared that the centre will give rupees 1,000 crore for the assistance of tea workers particularly ladies and their children in the 2 states.

The board said the scheme would concentrate around well-being, schooling and skill improvement.

Approximately 6.23 lakh female workers are engaged with the tea industry of the states of Assam and West Bengal, it said in a statement, noting that the 2 states account for almost 81% of the total crop creation of the nation.

As per the commission, mostly during COVID-19 pandemic, the tea industry displayed remarkable resistance, and the women's workforce rendered significant efforts to restore output during the outbreak.

It stated that the scheme would help improve the efficiency of female workers in both states and boost their standard of living.
