The meaning of GURU

Teaching fraternity is very important part of society. Parallel word of teacher in Indian languages is GURU which means the one who dispels the darkness and takes towards light. These views were expressed by Dr A S Nanda, Vice Chancellor of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University at the Teachers' Day celebrations in university campus.

Teaching fraternity is very important part of society. Parallel word of teacher in Indian languages is GURU which means the one who dispels the darkness and takes towards light. These views were expressed by Dr A S Nanda, Vice Chancellor of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University at the Teachers' Day celebrations in university campus. He said that a good engineer will do good inventions and a good doctor will treat the patients dexterously but a good teacher will develop the entire generation of good engineers, doctors, politicians and bureaucrats for the holistic development of any country.

Thirty retired teachers including former Deans and officers of the university graced the occasion and appreciated the progress made by university in general. They stressed upon the maintaining quality of undergraduate teaching being given to students and exhorted the teaching community to work towards excellence in every sphere to make the university globally the best. A rich and emotional tribute was paid to the departed retired teachers of the Varsity in the previous year including Dr. Avtar Singh, Dr R.C. Chhabra, Dr. Sawai Singh, Dr. L N Dass, Dr S N Sharma and Dr R D Sharma. Samplings were implanted in memory of Late Dr Ajit Singh former Dean College of Veterinary Science. Dr. Nanda felicitated the former teachers of the college for their services to the development of veterinary education in Punjab. In his address he remembered the role of former teachers and present faculty in bringing the university amongst top state agricultural universities in India. Dr Ashwani Sharma, President, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Teacher's Association extended his gratitude on this august day to Dr. S. Radhakrishnan.

Dr. Shashi Kant Mahajan, General Secretary Teacher's Association thanked all the officers and both former and present faculty members and other honourable dignitaries for their presence on the occasion. Dr P N Dwivedi coordinated the whole function and managed the stage activities.
