Typhoon Noru Looms Near West Bengal; Causes Heavy Rainfall in These States

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain and thunderstorms in Chennai before the arrival of the northeast monsoon. 

According to IMD officials, a cyclonic circulation is present near the coast of Andhra Pradesh and might cause rainstorms for at least the next two days.

IMD has predicted mild to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over some parts of the city and suburbs during the next 48 hours. Although there the Weather may be generally cloudy, maximum and minimum temperatures may be around 33°C and 26°C-27°C. An IMD official stated, "This is due to a cyclonic circulation in the high atmosphere near the coast of Andhra Pradesh."

Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, director general of the IMD, stated on Thursday that the forecast indicates that normal to above normal rainfall is predicted over most of India in October, except for a few isolated areas in the southernmost region.

Chennai receives 867.4 mm of rainfall annually from the monsoon, or 68% of the city's total annual rainfall. On early Saturday morning, a few areas of the city saw rain and wind. 

IMD officials had previously stated that the southwest monsoon may continue to be active over some areas of north India due to a cyclonic circulation that emerged over the northeast and adjoining Bay of Bengal, a remnant of Typhoon Noru that struck the Philippines. "Around this system, moisture in the air will concentrate. As a result, Chennai and Tamil Nadu will get less precipitation. This might go on until October 12 or 13 until the system dissipates, "said Skymet Weather's chief meteorologist, Mahesh Palawat.

An Indian weather expert and blogger from Tamil Nadu named Pradeep John, popularly known as the "Tamil Nadu Weatherman," predicted that the next three days could see some light rain and mostly cloudy skies. "We can expect light rainfall like 1mm or 5mm. Another cyclonic circulation is anticipated to form around October 8 and proceed towards Tamil Nadu, perhaps increasing rainfall in the city," he said
