Union Minister of MSME, Jitan Ram Manjhi, inaugurated a special Khadi exhibition at Delhi Haat, INA, on October 18, 2024. Held during the festive season as part of the 'Khadi Mahotsav,' the exhibition supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Vocal for Local' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives, aiming to boost the income of Khadi artisans. Organized by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), the event will run until October 31, showcasing the vast array of handmade goods that are representative of India’s traditional craftsmanship.

Featuring 157 stalls, the exhibition hosts Khadi institutions and village industry units from across the country, representing states like Delhi, Rajasthan, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and more. Products on display include a variety of Khadi sarees, readymade garments, handicrafts, herbal and Ayurvedic items, leather goods, and everyday essentials such as soaps, shampoos, and spices. Artisans at the exhibition are also performing live demonstrations of their craft, adding an interactive element to the shopping experience.

During his address to the media, Manjhi encouraged the public to visit the exhibition and purchase Khadi products to support local artisans. He highlighted that such events help improve the economic condition of rural artisans, preserving India's rich tradition of indigenous craftsmanship. KVIC Chairman, Manoj Kumar, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the sector’s remarkable business growth, with a turnover of Rs 1.55 lakh crore in the last financial year.

Kumar further noted that following Prime Minister Modi's appeal to buy 'Made in India' products during his 'Mann Ki Baat' program, Delhi residents broke records on Gandhi Jayanti by purchasing Khadi worth over Rs 2 crore in a single day. This reflects growing public support for local craftsmanship and the 'Make in India' movement.

In addition to the diverse product range, the exhibition features live demonstrations and cultural programs celebrating India’s traditional arts. It serves as a vital platform for rural artisans to showcase their craftsmanship, contributing to both the preservation of cultural heritage and their economic empowerment.
