In order to combat anemia and micronutrient deficiencies throughout the state, the U.P. food and supplies department will begin distributing fortified rice through its public distribution scheme (PDS), according to additional commissioner Arun Kumar, who spoke on Wednesday at a workshop hosted by the United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP) in collaboration with New Concept Information Systems.

The rollout includes the TPDS (Targeted Population Distribution System), PM-POSHAN, ICDS, and AYY (Antyodaya Ann Yojana).

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), dietary diversity and micronutrient supplementation are the other two extensively used food-based treatments to treat anemia and micronutrient deficiencies, according to Dr. Siddharth Waghulkar, deputy head, nutrition and school feeding unit, UNWFP.

When offered through food safety net schemes, fortified rice has a significant potential to help alleviate the anaemia situation in the state, where the study found that it was present in more than 50% of women and children.

What is Anemia

When you have anemia, your body doesn't produce enough healthy red blood cells to supply your tissues with enough oxygen. Being anemic, or having low hemoglobin, can make you feel exhausted and frail.

Anemia can have many different forms, each with a unique cause. Anemia can be mild to severe and can be short-term or long-term. Anemia typically has multiple causes. If you believe you may have anemia, consult a physician. It can be an indicator of a serious sickness.

Depending on the underlying cause of anemia, treatments might range from taking supplements to receiving medical attention. Eating a healthy, diversified diet may help you avoid some types of anemia.

Depending on the cause and degree of anemia, different signs and symptoms may be present. Your anemia may not create any symptoms at all, depending on the underlying causes.

If signs and symptoms are present, they may include: fatigue, weakness, pale or yellowish skin, irregular heartbeats, shortness of breath, dizziness, chest pain, cold hands and feet and headaches.
