Uttar Purvi Mahotsav 2024: A Cultural Extravaganza Unveiling Northeast India's Richness
The inaugural edition of Uttar Purvi Mahotsav transcends being a mere event, representing a jubilant celebration of Northeast India's rich cultural fabric and a deep dive into its economic possibilities.
- This The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, managed through its CPSE, North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC), is set to host 'Uttar Purvi Mahotsav 2024,' a cultural odyssey that promises to unveil the richness of North East India. The five-day cultural extravaganza will take place at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from January 13th to 17th, 2024. Chanchal Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Development of North East Region, briefed the media today about the first edition of Uttar Purvi Mahotsav.
This Mahotsav aims to showcase the rich diversity of Northeast India, blending traditional arts, crafts, and cultures under one vibrant umbrella. More than a celebration, it is envisioned as a cultural mosaic.
Economic Opportunities and Regional Development:
Secretary Kumar emphasized that Uttar Purvi Mahotsav serves as a platform for economic opportunities. The festival is designed to foster exchanges in traditional handicrafts, handlooms, agro products, and tourism offerings, acting as a catalyst for the region's growth and development.

Handicrafts, Handlooms, and Agri-Horti Produce: The Mahotsav will feature 250 weavers, farmers, and entrepreneurs, showcasing handcrafted products, handloom textiles, sustainable handicrafts, and indigenous fruits from Northeast India.

Panel Discussions: Engaging discussions on catalyzing Northeast's progress, recognizing women leaders, and exploring the economic contributions of youth and workforce.

Buyer Seller Meets: Facilitating interactions across sectors, focusing on handlooms, handicrafts, agro products, and tourism.

Cultural Extravaganza Schedule:

January 14th: Satriya Dance of Assam, Hojagiri Dance of Tripura, and a Fashion Show.

January 15th: Tangtha Fight from Manipur and Lion Dance of Sikkim.

January 16th: Band performance from Mizoram, soulful tunes from Manipur.

January 17th: Grand finale with rock band Bottle Rockets India and performances by singer-violinist Sunita Bhuyan.
Inauguration and Foundation Laying:
During the Mahotsav, Barak Hostel at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will be inaugurated, accommodating 400 students from Northeast India. Additionally, the foundation stone of a North East Convention Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi, will be laid, serving as a cultural and information hub for the region.
