The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast for the upcoming week, outlining the key systems affecting the country’s climate. Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of southern India, while dense fog will cover the northern and northeastern regions. These varying weather patterns are likely to impact daily life and travel across the country. Here's an detailed overview at what to expect:

Weather Systems at Play

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has highlighted the presence of two significant weather systems influencing conditions across the country:

  1. A trough extending from the Comorin area to the southwest Bay of Bengal in the lower tropospheric level.

  2. A Western Disturbance as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies, with its axis situated at 5.8 km above mean sea level along longitude 70°E to the north of latitude 32°N.

Rainfall and Thunderstorm Predictions

  • Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe: Light to moderate rainfall expected at a few places, with isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

  • Andaman & Nicobar Islands: Light to moderate rainfall likely at many locations throughout the week.

Over the past 24 hours, minimum temperatures remained steady across most parts of India. However, certain regions experienced notably warmer conditions, with temperatures markedly above normal by 5°C to 6°C in parts of Madhya Maharashtra and moderately above normal by 2°C to 5°C in areas such as Punjab, Coastal Karnataka, and Marathwada.

On the morning of 16th November, visibility at Palam Airport dropped to 500 meters but improved by mid-morning. Similarly, Safdarjung Airport recorded visibility as low as 300 meters early in the day, which gradually improved to 400 meters after 9:00 AM IST.
