The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a latest weather update, highlighting the formation of a potential cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall across southern and northeastern regions, and dense fog conditions in parts of northern India. With significant weather systems, including a fresh Western Disturbance affecting the Himalayan region, and temperature fluctuations observed nationwide, the coming days will see diverse weather phenomena. Cyclonic Storm Brewing in Bay of Bengal

IMD reports that a Deep Depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified and is poised to become a cyclonic storm by 27th November 2024. This system, located at 6.3°N and 82.8°E, is approximately 310 km southeast of Trincomalee, 590 km south-southeast of Nagapattinam, and 800 km south-southeast of Chennai.

  • Expected movement: North-northwestward, skirting the Sri Lankan coast.

  • Predicted landfall: Tamil Nadu coast around 28th November.

Western Disturbance to Affect Himalayan Region

  • A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to impact the Western Himalayan Region starting 29th November, bringing possible light precipitation and slight dips in temperature.

The IMD has issued warnings for regions including Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh, where foggy conditions are likely between 27th November and 1st December 2024. Travelers and commuters are advised to exercise caution, as reduced visibility could affect road and air transportation.
