Weather Update: Deep Depression Moves Across Odisha, Rainfall Likely in These States

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the deep depression will continue to move across West Bengal and neighboring north Odisha and Jharkhand toward north Chhattisgarh during the course of the next 24 hours before gradually weakening.

The deep depression that was over northwest Chhattisgarh, neighboring Madhya Pradesh, and southeast Uttar Pradesh has weakened into a depression, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Sunday. It also stated that rain would continue across the Peninsula's southern regions for the following two days.

"The deep depression has moved to the northwest and is currently above Jharkhand. It will eventually weaken. Where it still lingers, western Odisha areas may get heavy to extremely severe rainfall "said HR Biswas, director of IMD.

Rainfall Predictions in the Indian States:

Likely, West Madhya Pradesh on August 21 and East Rajasthan on August 22 will experience very widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated/scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls in isolated areas.

Fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated very heavy to heavy falls and thunderstorms/lightning are very likely over East Rajasthan on August 21, East Madhya Pradesh on August 21, the ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra on August 21 and 22, West Madhya Pradesh on August 22, West Rajasthan, and northern parts of Gujarat Region on August 23.

Fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning is very likely over Himachal Pradesh from August 20–24, over Uttarakhand on August 21–24, over West and East Uttar Pradesh on August 24, over Punjab on August 22–24, and over Haryana on August 21–22.

On August 22 and 23, 2022, there is a good chance of isolated rainstorms, moderate to light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning is very likely over the following areas in August 2022: Kerala and Mahe on August 22 and 23, South Interior Karnataka and Tamilnadu on August 23 and 24, Puducherry and Karaikal on August 23 and 24, and South Interior Karnataka on August 24.

It is quite likely that Andaman and Nicobar Islands will experience widespread moderate to light rainfall with a few isolated heavy showers, thunderstorms, and lightning until August 22.
