Weather Update: Extremely Heavy Rainfall Likely in These States on 17 & 18 November: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall on November 18, with extremely heavy precipitation in portions of South Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, as well as light to moderate rainfall throughout the rest of the week.

At lower and medium tropospheric levels, another trough extends from the cyclonic circulation associated with low pressure region over east-central Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast to the low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall on November 18, with extremely heavy precipitation in portions of South Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, as well as light to moderate rainfall throughout the rest of the week. 

IMD weather prediction shows a low-pressure region over the southeast Bay of Bengal, which is expected to move roughly westwards and reach west-central and adjoining the southwest Bay of Bengal off the coastlines of south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu. 

Another low-pressure region is lingering off the coast of Karnataka in the east-central Arabian Sea. During the following 48 hours, it is expected to drift west-northwestwards and become more noticeable” - according to IMD. 

At lower tropospheric levels, a trough extends from the cyclonic circulation associated with low-pressure region across the east-central Arabian Sea from the coast of Karnataka to north Konkan via south Maharashtra-Goa beaches” – IMD said. 

At lower and medium tropospheric levels, another trough extends from the cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure region over the east-central Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast to the low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal” – IMD added. 

Light to moderate rainfall is expected in most areas, with heavy rainfall in isolated areas, across coastal and south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and coastal Andhra Pradesh over the next 5 days and over Rayalaseema over the next 3 days, as a result of these weather systems. 

On November 17isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, as well as coastal Andhra PradeshOn November 18, the weatherman predicts isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with exceptionally heavy precipitation across north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, as well as south coastal Andhra Pradesh. 

Across the course of this week, strong winds of 40-50 kmph with gusts up to 60 kmph are forecast over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea 

 Fishermen are warned not to venture into locations where high winds are present.
