Weather Update: IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall Across India with Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Northeast Among Worst Hit
India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across multiple regions of India, including Konkan, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and parts of South India.
India is set to experience intense rainfall over various regions in the coming week, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Several areas, including Konkan & Goa, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, East Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Marathwada, Coastal Karnataka, and Bihar, will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Other states such as Rayalaseema, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, West Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra, Interior Karnataka, and Telangana will also experience significant downpours during this period.

Heavy rainfall on Wednesday caused severe flooding in Mumbai, disrupting transportation and leading to the diversion of flights and halting of trains. The IMD has issued a red alert for the region and advised people to stay indoors. A landslide in Thane caused traffic jams, and schools and colleges have been declared closed.
West India
Widespread moderate rainfall is forecast across Konkan & Goa, with isolated extremely heavy rain expected on September 25th and 26th. Gujarat and Madhya Maharashtra are also at risk of heavy to very heavy rainfall between September 25th and 27th, with Marathwada likely to be impacted on September 25th. Furthermore, regions such as Saurashtra and Kutch could witness heavy rains on September 26th and 27th.
Central India
Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha will see widespread light to moderate rainfall over the next two days, with occasional heavy spells. Madhya Pradesh, particularly the eastern part, is likely to be drenched by heavy to very heavy rain on September 25th, with West Madhya Pradesh experiencing heavy rainfall between the 25th and 27th.
East and Northeast India
The eastern and northeastern parts of India are in for significant rainfall. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may experience extremely heavy rain on September 25th and 26th. Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland are expected to receive heavy downpours during the same period. Bihar and parts of West Bengal are also on alert for heavy rainfall, with consistent rain forecast over the next few days. The IMD has warned of possible heavy rain in Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Odisha.
South Peninsular India
Southern states, including Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, will see light to moderate rainfall throughout the week. Isolated heavy rain is likely over Kerala and Mahe on September 25th, 29th, and 30th. Telangana and Coastal Karnataka are expected to receive heavy rainfall on September 25th and 26th.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions to minimize disruptions caused by heavy rainfall in various regions.
