Weather Update: IMD Predicts Fresh Spell of Rainfall Accompanied with Thunderstorm and Hailstorm

A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to impact the western Himalayan region starting from February 26, 2024, bringing rainfall and snowfall over the Western Himalayas.

Today's weather in Delhi is forecasted to be cloudy, with temperatures ranging from a high of 24°C to a low of 13°C. However, residents are advised to be cautious due to widespread areas of smoke and haze, which may intermittently reduce visibility.

IMD's Weather Recap

In the preceding days, various regions across India witnessed diverse weather phenomena:

  • Hailstorms and Rainfall: Isolated hailstorms were reported over Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. Additionally, light to moderate rainfall and snowfall occurred in several areas, including Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and others.
  • Heavy Rainfall: Some regions experienced heavy rainfall, particularly Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Scattered Rainfall: Several states such as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry witnessed light to moderate rainfall at different places.

IMD's Weather Systems Forecast for the Next 5 Days

Western Disturbance: As per India Meteorological Department's latest press release, a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to impact the western Himalayan region starting from February 26, 2024. This disturbance is likely to bring isolated to scattered light rainfall and snowfall over the Western Himalayas, with thunderstorms and lightning in some areas, particularly over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Jet Stream Winds: Northeast India is anticipated to experience isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall and snowfall over Arunachal Pradesh in the coming days, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

Cyclonic Circulation: A cyclonic circulation over Marathwada and neighboring regions, coupled with a wind discontinuity extending to Coastal Andhra Pradesh, may lead to isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana. Additionally, gusty winds and hailstorms are forecasted for specific areas.

Hot and Humid Conditions: Kerala is expected to experience hot and humid weather on February 24 and 25, 2024.

Minimum Temperature Forecast: Minimal changes in minimum temperatures are predicted over Northwest and Central India in the next 24 hours, followed by a slight rise thereafter. Similarly, no significant changes are expected in minimum temperatures over the rest of the country for the next five days.
