Weather Update (October 18): Heavy Rainfall Alert for Rayalaseema, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Coastal Regions

Heavy rainfall is expected in Rayalaseema, Karnataka, West Bengal, and coastal regions, as per the India Meteorological Department's latest forecast. Fishermen are advised to avoid certain coastal areas due to squally weather and rough sea conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places across multiple regions of India. The affected areas include Rayalaseema, Karnataka, Gangetic West Bengal, Konkan & Goa, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and Madhya Maharashtra.

Weather System Updates

  1. Depression Over Bay of Bengal

    • A depression that formed over the west-central and adjoining Bay of Bengal has crossed the north Tamil Nadu-South Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Nellore, near Chennai on the 17th of October.

    • After crossing the coast, the system weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area and is currently situated over South coastal Andhra Pradesh and North coastal Tamil Nadu.

    • It is expected to weaken further into a low-pressure area in the next 6 hours, moving west-northwestwards.

  2. New Cyclonic Circulation Expected

    • A fresh upper air cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the North Andaman Sea by 20th October.

    • A low-pressure area is expected to develop in the Central Bay of Bengal around 22nd October and may intensify as it moves northwestward.
