The capital residents woke up to a sweet chill and rain in parts of Delhi with a low temperature of 12°C and are expected to experience a high of 24°C which for some might feel that summer is striking the city. However, the capital's skies are expected to be not clear; instead, they will be shrouded in clouds with widespread areas of smoke and haze, significantly reducing visibility at times. The humidity level stands at 39%, hinting at zero to low chances of rain and gentle northwest winds blowing at 10 to 15 km/h.

IMD Forecast Highlights: Varied Weather Patterns Across India

Yesterday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) released its forecast for the next five days, highlighting diverse weather patterns across different regions of the country.

Isolated to scattered rainfall: Parts of Marathwada, Telangana, south Madhya Pradesh, south Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Vidarbha, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal are expected to experience isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Hailstorm activity is also likely at isolated places over specific regions.

Western Disturbance: A trough in middle tropospheric westerlies is likely to cause isolated to scattered light rainfall and snowfall over the Western Himalayan Region and adjoining plains on February 26 and 27, 2024

Upcoming Weather Systems: An active Western Disturbance is forecasted to affect the Western Himalayan Region and adjoining plains from February 29 to March 4, 2024. This system is expected to bring fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and even hailstorm activity to various regions.

Cyclonic Circulation: Over east Assam and its neighborhood, isolated to scattered rainfall and snowfall are expected over Arunachal Pradesh in the coming days.

Lifestyle Impact: What to Expect and How to Prepare

Given the anticipated weather conditions, residents across affected regions need to stay informed and take necessary precautions.

With cloudy skies and reduced visibility due to smoke and haze, Delhiites are advised to exercise caution while traveling, especially on roads and highways. Wearing masks can help mitigate the impact of pollution on skin and respiratory health.

For the Western Himalayan Region, residents should prepare for possible disruptions due to rainfall and snowfall. Stocking up on essential supplies and ensuring adequate insulation for homes to stay warm during the cold spell is advisable.
