Agriculture Apps: Government to Launch ‘Super App’ To Help Farmers

According to an official at the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, the government aims to launch a super app for the farmers that will consolidate multiple digital entities and existing mobile applications aimed at them.

The consolidation will make it easier for farmers to access information such as the most recent development and research activities, government schemes, advisories, market and weather updates, and available services.

Super App-All the Information Related to Agriculture On One Platform

The ministry is planning on combining different apps such as IIFCO Kisan, Pusa Krishi, Farm-o-Pedia, Krishi Gyan of ICARs, etc, making their wide spectrum of services available on a single platform. This initiative will be more user-friendly and it will allow the farmers to access all the latest information available on agriculture and government subsidies and schemes.

According to the official, the consolidation of various apps under a super app in one location will assist farmers in selecting from a bunch of services based on their needs. The emphasis will be on aggregating these apps to make it easier to find a relevant app.

The Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar briefly met with senior ministry officials to review the status of the super app's progress. As per the officials, it could be released within the next several weeks.

The super app will also educate farmers about the latest technologies in agriculture and crop yielding as well as the issues of post-harvesting such as marketing.  According to the official, it will aid in connecting farmers directly to the research world.

Several government organizations such as Krishi Vigyan Kendras, ICAR institutions, and agriculture universities are working on modifying their existing apps so that they can later be integrated with the super app.
