Exports of non-basmati rice reported a 112% rise at $3.068 billion for April-December versus $1.448 billion in a similar period a year ago. In rupee terms, for the year, non-Basmati rice exports were around 22,858 crore (around 10,268 crore) and grain shipments added up to 8.21 million tons in worth (3.58 million tons).
Optimistic forecasts for rice:
Lately, India has arisen as the biggest maker of rice as different providers face supply issues. "We are bullish about the forecast and expect non-Basmati rice shipments for the current financial year to surpass 11 million tons," said BV Krishna Rao, President of the Association of Rice Exporters.
