UP Govt to Ensure Payments Worth Rs 8,000 crore to Sugarcane Farmers in Next 100 Days

The UP government plans to make payments to sugarcane farmers totaling Rs 8,000 crore over the next 100 days. On Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath convened a review meeting of the agriculture department, during which he directed officials to ensure that sugarcane dues are paid to farmers in a timely manner.

During the meeting, the chief minister emphasized the importance of clearing Rs 8,000 crore in dues to sugarcane farmers in the next 100 days and Rs 12,000 crore in the next six months.

"In the last five years, we have set a record by clearing cane dues worth Rs 1,69,153 crore to cane farmers." Efforts should be made to pay farmers 8,000 crores in 100 days and Rs 12,000 crores in six months," he said.

He also stated that his government is committed to paying farmers for sugarcane within 14 days of procurement.

The chief minister emphasized the use of modern agricultural techniques as well as traditional agricultural science to increase productivity, and he stated that agricultural education and agricultural research should be farmer-oriented and accountable.

He stated that only 30-35 percent of edible oil production was completed, while pulse production was completed at a rate of 40-45 percent. Yogi demanded a concrete action plan to increase production to meet demand.

"Oilseed and pulse production must be increased. Small and marginal farmers will play an important role in this," he stated.

Within five years, the Uttar Pradesh government hopes to increase productivity from 81.5 tonnes per hectare to 84 tonnes per hectare.

Yogi stated that efforts should be made to develop each Krishi Vigyan Kendra into a centre of excellence, and that the crop insurance scheme survey should be simplified further. He emphasized the importance of natural farming in 35 districts along the Ganga's banks.
