Animal Husbandry Dept To Strengthen Veterinary Poly Clinics And Disease Investigation Units

A technical team led by the Secretary of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) Department visited the Gangtok's Veterinary Poly Clinic and Disease Investigation Units to upgrade the facilities and extend the services offered to citizens.

Pets, small ruminants, and other animals are brought to the polyclinic for the treatment of different diseases and maladies.

As a consequence of the exceptional veterinary services provided by the poly clinic's veterinarians, the number of cases in the polyclinic is steadily increasing.

Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, Secretary AHVS, Principal Directors Dr. BM Chettri, Dr. Gynashyam Sharma, Director, Veterinary Services Dr. Sivashankar, and Additional Directors, Joint Secretary, JDs, DDs, and Veterinary officials of the department constituted this team.

The group discussed how to improve the clinic's infrastructure, equipment, and service delivery. It also explored the feasibility of developing an in-patient facility for pet animals at the clinic and working 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide services around the clock.

The secretary directed the doctors to report the instances to the department and estimate future clinic growth and development requirements in order to create a comprehensive roadmap.

They also visited to the disease investigation unit and laboratory facilities on the campus, which included a microbiological lab, a blood testing lab, and a nutrition lab.

Given the state's increasing veterinary health care activities, the issue of a lack of infrastructure and staff was also investigated in order to develop solutions in the near future. The team also investigated the idea of building a call center for veterinary preventative treatments, such as vaccines, that would treat all animals in the state.

Meanwhile, the Superintendent of SVPC – Dr Diki Palmu Sherpa – accompanied the teams to explain the various activities of the polyclinic, and the concerned Addl Directors and JDs heading various Investigation Units also explained the activities undertaken by their divisions to provide various veterinary care services.

Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, Secretary of AH&VS, commended the State Poly Clinic team of Veterinary Doctors, Disease Investigation Units, and Veterinarians working in various other laboratories on their achievements and assured them of all assistance for further strengthening the Institution.
