Krishi Vigyan Kendra Organizes Training Program on Profitable Dairy Farming & Livestock Management

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kohima organized a five-day training program on "Profitable Dairy Farming and Livestock Management" which began on February 15 in Ziphenyu village and concluded on March 16 at VAC Gariphe Basa under the banner of "Capacity Building of Farmers."

The training program included scientific poultry production in Ziphenyu village, scientific pig production in Henbenji, feeds and feeding management in Tseminyu, common livestock diseases and their management in Phenwhenyu, and an integrated farming system to increase farmers' income in Gariphe Basa.

VAS, Tseminyu, Dr. Gwathonlo Tsela, VAS, Zunheboto, Dr. Gwazenlo Tep, and ACTO (Animal Science) KVK, Kohima, Dr. Paihem served as resource persons for the training programs.

The valedictory training program was chaired by senior scientist and head, Dr. Ruokuovilie Mezhatsu, at VAC Gariphe Basa, where ADC, Chiephobozu, Vekhoyi Chakhesang, who is also the chairman of VAC, was graced the program.

ADC encouraged farmers and the KVK institute to collaborate for income development and urged farmers to seek advice when needed.

During the technical session, ACTO (Animal Science), Dr. Paihem discussed an integrated farming system based on livestock, while ACTO (Horticulture), Khekali Sema provided hands-on training and demonstrations on mushroom production.

Altogether 40 farmers participated in the training. Meanwhile, BDO, Chiephobozu, Seyiekhrielie Rio, and Ketho Angami of VAC members have also attended the program.

Farmers were also given critical inputs such as veterinary medication, mushroom spawn, and polybags. Dr. Sesenlo Kath, the technical officer (Farm), gave a vote of thanks at the end of the event.
