Teacher's Day is a day that we all have celebrated at some point in our lives - a day dedicated to thanking our teachers and gurus who have guided us whenever we needed it. On this day, students across the nation express their gratitude and appreciation to the dedicated teachers who stand as pillars of support and guide them through their ups and downs.

Imagine a world where there is no one to advise you, no one to guide you through life, no one to impart knowledge, leaving you to struggle and hustle on your own without guidance or experience. How would it be? Unimaginable, right? This thought makes us realize how important teachers and mentors are; even their smallest guidance can help us do better in life.

Why Do We Celebrate Teacher’s Day?

This special day is celebrated on September 5th, marking the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a scholar, politician, philosopher, and statesman from India. India was honored to have him as its first Vice President and second President. Dr. Radhakrishnan spent his life and career as a writer, passionately describing his faith in different fields of learning.

Dr. Radhakrishnan requested that September 5th be marked as Teacher’s Day to recognize the contribution of teachers to society. Today, Teacher’s Day is celebrated to highlight the impact of teachers by showing them gratitude and appreciation on this day.

Significance of Teacher’s Day

Teachers and mentors who guide us through life deserve to be celebrated. They play a crucial role in shaping our future, and it’s important to show them gratitude and appreciation for always being there for us. Beyond guidance, teachers provide us with knowledge, offering us a path to follow in our lives. The celebration of this day is as important as any other because we are not just celebrating Teacher’s Day; we are celebrating the knowledge we’ve gained and the people who have helped us learn life’s lessons.

Teacher’s Day and Agriculture: A Blend of Knowledge and Practical Learning

Education is not confined to the pages of textbooks; it extends to practical knowledge and life skills that prepare us for the real world. An inspiring example of this is seen in Kerala with Arabic teacher Mash Zubair, who not only encourages academic excellence but also teaches students practical knowledge of farming and agriculture. At Fort Kochi Santa Cruz LP School, Mash Zubair arrives at school with a basket full of seeds, encouraging students to grow them at home. His passion for both teaching and farming has sparked curiosity and interest in agriculture among students who otherwise knew little about it.

Similarly, Raphi Ramanath, a biology teacher at Vignjana Vilasini Higher Secondary School in Thamarakulam, Kerala, turned his school campus into a thriving herbal garden and mini forest. With the help of students and community members, Raphi established a Miyawaki model forest within the school campus. This "Vidyavanam" forest, now home to over 450 trees of 112 different species, is a testament to his dedication to environmental conservation and education. His efforts have transformed the school into a green oasis, providing a living classroom where students learn about biodiversity and the importance of preserving nature.

Legacy of Teacher’s Day Lives On

Every year, Teacher’s Day reminds us of all the people who have imparted knowledge to us, shown us the right path, or helped us achieve something in life. The legacy of celebrating Teacher’s Day every year lives on, inspiring us to appreciate and honor the mentors who shape our lives, both in the classroom and beyond.
