According to vehicle registration statistics issued by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association of India (FADA) for the month of January, tractor sales fell 13% year on year. Due to a number of obstacles in the rural sector, India's top 5 tractor manufacturers have reported drastically fewer sales.

The Union Budget, which emphasises highway upgrades and MSP guarantees for farmers, as well as the impending wedding season, may yield some favourable effects. In the previous month, total tractor sales (retail) were 55,421 units, a 9.86 percent decrease from 61,485 units sold in January 2021 and a 1.36 percent decrease from 54,679 units sold in January 2020.

Mahindra Tops The Chart

Last month, Mahindra topped the list with 12,986 units sold. In January 2021, 13,652 units were sold, and market share climbed from 22.20 percent to 23.43 percent year over year. In January 2021, Mahindra's Swaraj Division reported a YoY decrease in tractor retails to 9,321 units, down from 10,339 units sold the previous year, but market share remained at 16.82 percent.

Last month, Sonalika Tractors (International Tractors Limited) had a YoY decline in retail sales. Sales fell to 7,600 units, with a 13.71 percent market share, down from 8,721 units sold in January 2021, with a 14.18 percent market share. The business has reported strong sales of its freshly released Sonalika Tiger DI 75 4W CRDs tractor, which has CRDs technology and meets Trem IV emission standards, and costs Rs 11 lakhs.

Escorts, TAFE, John Deere Numbers

Escorts, TAFE, and John Deere were among the top selling OEMs last month. Escorts and TAFE both had YoY declines, falling to 5,457 and 5,430 units, respectively, and losing market share.

Sales of John Deere, on the other hand, increased marginally to 4,879 units in January 2021, up from 4,849 units in January 2021. On a year-over-year basis, market share climbed from 7.89 percent to 8.80 percent. At the CES Technology Expo, John Deere displayed an autonomous tractor that demonstrated its capacity to till a field without the need for a driver. The exact date of the launch in India is yet to be announced.

Eicher Tractors (3,602 units) and CNH Industrial both reported a drop in retail sales (2,214 units). On a year-over-year basis, Eicher's market share increased to 6.50 percent from 6.28 percent in January 2021, while CNH's market share decreased to 3.99 percent from 4.01 percent.

Lower down the list were Kubota (1,313 units), Force Motors (425 units), and VST Tillers (404 units), as well as Indo Farm Equipment (296 units) and Captain Tractors (162 units). Other OEMs in the tractor sector sold 1,332 units in the previous month, down from 2,073 units in January 2021, resulting in a decrease in market share to 2.40 percent from 3.37 percent in January 2021.
