Lavender is a mint-family flowering plant that is immediately recognized by its pleasant floral aroma. It is thought to be a native of the Mediterranean, India, and the Middle East, having a 2,500-year history.

Lavender flower was used as a holy herb in ancient times. It was also used to refresh and fragrance a variety of personal objects, such as hair and clothing. Lavender is much more than a fragrant flower. As it turns out, this herb is widely used for medicinal and therapeutic purposes.

Below are the Potential Health Benefits of using Lavender:

  • Improve Sleep

  • Relieve Asthma Symptoms

  • Treat Skin Blemishes

  • Lessens Menopausal Hot Flashes

  • Promotes Hair Growth

Improve Sleep

Insomnia is a sleep disorder that causes you to toss and turn all night. Caffeine abstinence and increased physical activity aid in the induction of sleep. However, these efforts do not always bear fruit. As a result, you're a drowsy mess during the day.

If you are willing to try anything for a peaceful night's sleep, you can use lavender essential oil. According to a study published in March 2017 in the British Association of Critical Nurses, lavender essential oil is an effective remedy in improving the sleep quality of intensive care unit patients who have difficulty sleeping.

If you've tried everything else and still can't sleep, try putting a few drops of lavender essential oil on your pillow before going to bed. Just be careful not to swallow or any other essential oil, as this could be harmful to your health.

Relieve Asthma Symptoms

Lavender's anti-inflammatory properties may help in bronchial asthma. A study on mice published in the Journal Life Sciences in July 2014 discovered that lavender essential oil has a good impact on respiratory health, mucus hyperplasia, and reducing allergic inflammation. It's uncertain whether the same effect would be noticed in humans.

Treat Skin Blemishes

Lavender oil, for example, is a wonderful essential oil for dermatology use. If you suffer from eczema, skin irritation, or acne. According to a report published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine in 2017, using lavender oil to the affected area may help alleviate the blemishes and reduce inflammation. Dilute the essential oil in water or carrier oil for persons with sensitive skin.

The anti-oxidant property of lavender may also contribute to wound healing.

Just be sure to check with your dermatologist before adding the lavender to your skincare, to ensure that it won’t interact with any of the medications that you are currently taking.

Lessens Menopausal Hot Flashes

Hot flashes or flushes are frequent menopausal symptoms that many women experience. It generates a sudden sensation of heat all throughout the body, as well as flushing and perspiration.

According to a study published in the Journal of Chinese Medical Association in September 2016, lavender aromatherapy for 20 minutes twice a day may help reduce menopausal flashing and improve quality of life.

Promotes Hair Growth

Another study found that applying an essential oil to the backs of mice once a day, five times a week, for four weeks resulted in an increase in the number of hair follicles and a thicker dermal layer. This leads experts to assume that lavender could be utilized to promote hair development, though more research is needed.
