Cauliflower Vs. Broccoli: Know the Difference and Which One is Healthier?

Cauliflower

The word "cauliflower" means "cabbage flower." The name "cauliflower" is originated from the Latin words caulis (cabbage) and flos (flower). Cauliflower comes from the species of Brassica oleracea, also known as the mustard family, and is from the cruciferous family.  It is a plant that is grown from seeds. Although all the parts of cauliflower are edible, however, its flesh, called the curd is eaten more commonly than the stem. 

Broccoli 

Broccoli is also a member of the cabbage family (Brassicaceae). Broccoli's head, stem, and stalk are widely eaten as a vegetable. It is dark-green colored and has a light green colored stem. Some small leaves can be found on the stalk of the broccoli. The structure of broccoli resembles a tree-like shape. Broccoli is closely related to cauliflower but is different from it.  

Difference Between Cauliflower and Broccoli

The broccoli and cauliflower are similar but different. Exactly how you may ask? The answer to this question lies ahead of this article. 

The main difference between the two is of color. Broccoli is dark-green colored whereas cauliflower has a white and off-white color. The other difference is taste, the broccoli has a mild sweeter taste than cauliflower. Though both broccoli and cauliflower share good nutritional profiles. However, broccoli outshines cauliflower in terms of nutritional value. Let us find out how; 

Nutritional Content 

Both Cauliflower and Broccoli have loads of nutrients and very low-calorie content. Broccoli provides you with around 2.5 gms of protein whereas, cauliflower leaves you with 2gms of protein. Both cauliflower and broccoli are enriched with antioxidants, however, the content of Vitamin C in broccoli is higher. You can get 90% of your daily requirement OF Vitamin C from about 1 cup of broccoli.

 Similarly, broccoli also has a higher amount of Vitamin K, carbs, riboflavin, Vitamin E, Magnesium, Phosphorous, Niacin than cauliflower.
