CBSE Board Exams 2023: New Assessment Scheme Released; BIG Change in Exam Pattern

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important update for the upcoming annual board exams for students in Class 10 and Class 12. The Board has outlined the Assessment and Evaluation Practices for the Annual CBSE Board Exam 2022-23 in its most recent circular.

The evaluation matrix has been aligned with Competency-Based Education, which is the main highlight of the CBSE Board Exam 2023 Assessment Scheme. In accordance with this, the annual board exams for the upcoming sessions will include a greater number of Competency-Based Questions or questions that assess the application of concepts in real-life/unfamiliar situations.

Term-wise Exams Scrapped: Only One Board Exam

According to the CBSE Board's assessment policy, the board intends to scrap the Two Term, Split Exam Policy, which was adopted last year in response to the exceptional circumstances of the pandemic, for the 2022-23 session. According to the CBSE Board circular, for the 2022-23 school year, the board intends to hold only one term or one board exam at the end of the academic session. The exam will be based on the CBSE Curriculum 2022-23 and will include questions from the entire syllabus, which will be available on the board's website.

Meanwhile, the board has changed the exam pattern for the class 10, 12, and 13 board exams.

For CBSE Class 10th Board Exams 2023

• 40% MCQs of multiple-choice questions.

• 20% would be competency-based questions

• 40 percent subjective or short/long answer type questions

For CBSE Class 12th Board Exams 2023

• 20% Objective

• 30% Competency-based

• 50% long/short type questions

Meanwhile, the CBSE class 10, 12 board exams are in session. While CBSE class 10 exams will end on May 24, 2022, CBSE class 12 exams will end a month later on July 15, 2022. The assessment criteria for both classes have yet to be released by the board.
