Livestock is the primary component of India's animal wealth, playing a crucial role in its economy. The well-being of cattle is of utmost importance for the country's prosperity, and therefore, ensuring their good health is imperative.

Veterinarians play a vital role in improving animal health, safeguarding not just the livestock but the entire society as well. Recognizing this, World Veterinary Day is observed on the last Saturday of every April. The theme for this year's celebration is ‘Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness in the Veterinary Profession.’

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, in conjunction with the Veterinary Council of India, will be commemorating World Veterinary Day on April 29th, 2023, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

This event aims to acknowledge and honor the significant contributions made by veterinarians in animal and human health and welfare, food safety and quality, ecology, drugs and pharmaceutical development, biomedical research, rural development, education and training, policymaking, economic growth through livestock production and management, wildlife conservation, and protection of the environment and biodiversity. Additionally, it is crucial to recognize their efforts in preventing bio-terrorism and safeguarding the country.

The ceremony will be attended by Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Dr Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, and L. Murugan, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

The Mega event will be attended by veterinary professionals from across the country. The main events include conferences and panel discussions on topics such as veterinary education and services in the country, as well as the role of veterinarians in One Health.
