Dr. Gurvinder Singh, the Director of Agriculture for Punjab, as well as Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, the university's vice-chancellor, met with Dr Josef Thoma, the director of expansion for agricultural inputs at BayWa AG in Munich (Germany), at Punjab Agricultural University.

Thoma was on a visit to India in order to attend the 5th Progressive Punjab Investors Summit hosted in Mohali's Indian School of Business (ISB).

When Thoma visited certain PAU locations, he was enthralled by the soil museum and praised the wheat varieties, particularly the high zinc and resistant starch varieties.

He also praised the sensor-based drip irrigation system and sub-surface irrigation of wheat, as well as the super-elite seed production of potatoes that combined tissue culture, aeroponics, and poly screen house cultivation. He said it was enlightening to see such cutting-edge technologies in use at the institution

With its climate strategy and forward-thinking approach to environmental management, the BayWa company hopes to mitigate adverse effects as much as possible and contribute to protecting the foundation for life, he added.

When describing the PAU's current situation to Thoma, Gosal focused on research advancements in processing and protection technologies combined with unconventional technology transfer methods. He insisted that the institution was putting its efforts into developing technologies that increase output without posing environmental risks.

The development of improved crop varieties and their production-protection technology package, saline-alkaline soil reclamation technology, cropping-system and agro-ecology-based input application, farm mechanization, post-harvest processing, food engineering interventions, value chain analysis, etc. are just a few of the university's ground-breaking accomplishments that were previously summarised by Dr. Ajmer Singh Dhatt, the director of research at PAU.
