Government Releases Benefits Under PM CARES For Children Scheme; Scholarships Announced

On Monday at 10:30 a.m., Prime Minister Narendra Modi released benefits under the PM CARES  for Children scheme through video conference.

"On the 30th of May, at 10:30 a.m., benefits under the PM CARES for Children scheme will be released. "Through this effort, we are assisting those whose parents have died as a result of COVID-19," PM Modi tweeted on Sunday evening.

The Prime Minister has also offered scholarships to children who are enrolled in school. During the programme, the children received a PM CARES for Children passbook as well as a health card under the Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, according to the Prime Minister's Office.

The Prime Minister introduced the PM CARES for Children Scheme on May 29, 2021, to help children who lost both parents, legal guardians, adoptive parents, or surviving parents to the COVID-19 pandemic between March 11, 2020 and February 28, 2022.

The scheme's goal is to provide children with long-term care and protection by providing them with boarding and lodging, empowering them through education and scholarships, preparing them for self-sufficiency with a financial support of Rs 10 lakh when they reach the age of 23, and ensuring their health through health insurance.

To register the children, the government developed an online portal. The portal is a single-window system that streamlines the approval procedure as well as all other child aid.

About PM CARES Fund

Following the COVID-19 outbreak in India, the PM CARES Fund was established on March 27, 2020. The fund's claimed objective is to fight the coronavirus outbreak and similar pandemic-like circumstances in the future, as well as containment and relief activities. Despite the fact that the documentation for the fund's creation has not been made public, the Indian government has stated that the fund's chairman is Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and that trustees include the Indian government's Ministers of Defense, Rajnath Singh, Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah, and Minister of Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman.
