According to a statement from the rural development ministry, daily pay have been enhanced in the 7-26 range in absolute terms. The increase is significant since MGNREGA rates serve as a standard for rural pay and impact industry wage increases as well.

According to a statement from the rural development ministry, daily pay have been enhanced in the 7-26 range in absolute terms.

During FY24, the revised wages for several states and union territories range from 221 per day (Chhattisgarh/Madhya Pradesh) to 357 (Haryana).

Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Goa, Karnataka, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry are the states and union territories where pay increases for FY24 are less than 5%. Every fiscal year, the MGNREGS promises 100 days of employment to adult members of any rural household who are willing to conduct unskilled manual labour for public reasons.

According to the government's revised estimate, spending on MGNREGA will increase to Rs 89,400 crore this fiscal year, up from Rs 73,000 crore previously budgeted. The government has budgeted Rs 60,000 crore for FY24, but finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has stated that additional funds will be granted if necessary.
