Gujarat CM Organizes Review Meeting on Crop Losses Due to Unexpected Rainfall
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a video conference with District Collectors from Gandhinagar on March 19 to conduct a complete review of the situation in the state following the unseasonal rainfall.
Further losses, including the loss of summer crops and fruit, have been reported to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, particularly in Amreli, Junagadh, Saurashtra-Kutch, Central and North Gujarat.
He also asked the District Collectors in charge to perform a preliminary survey of agricultural losses in their respective districts. The District Collectors provided extensive information in this context, stating that teams had been despatched to survey the damage, including agricultural damage, in their area.
While providing instructions to the District Collectors, the Chief Minister stated that it is vital to conduct the survey in such a way that no one is harmed in this survey and to take suitable action for payment as per the laws.
"The Central Meteorological Department has projected changes in weather in the coming," Patel added, "and hence early planning for crop protection against possible changes in weather should be done."
Not only that, but he urged people to take precautions and safety procedures in order to avoid human death or animal loss. While guiding the Collectors in this video conference, the Chief Secretary stated that as part of precautionary measures against unseasonal rains, crop protection measures should be taken from the district level through Agri-Advisory in local publicity channels to ensure that farmers are informed about the weather change in time.
During the assessment of seasonal rainfall, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel noted that rainfall ranging from 1 mm to 47 mm had been recorded in 111 talukas throughout 27 districts in the state. More than 10 mm of rainfall has been recorded in 33 talukas across 18 districts. Also, from March 5 to March 9, there was unseasonal rainfall in 27 districts.
Chief Minister, Pankaj Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, Kamal Dayani, Additional Chief Secretary of Revenue, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, and Relief Commissioners from the relevant departments were present during the video conference.
