IMD Alert: Temperature in This State is Likely to Increase By 2-3 Degree This Week; Details Inside

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in several parts of India is likely to increase in the coming days. The weather department said that several districts in Kerala are expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius this week.

Moreover, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the districts of Kollam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Kannur may have above-normal temperatures in the days to come. 

"The maximum temperature is projected to be 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal in Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, Kozhikode Kannur Kannur districts this week," K Santhosh, IMD Director, Thiruvananthapuram, stated. He said that the state received 33% less rain than normal. The dry north-easterly wind is another reason, Santhosh said. 

According to the IMD, the highest temperature on Friday was 38.6 degrees Celsius in the Thrissur district, followed by 38 degrees Celsius in neighboring Palakkad. The highest temperature in Kannur, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kozhikode, and Punalur climbed by 2.6 degrees Celsius, 2.5 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees Celsius, 2.1 degrees Celsius, and 2.2 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Saturday, March 12. 

The IMD also forecasted that the state's summer will peak between March 20 and April 10. It should be mentioned that the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) planned to deploy equipment to monitor the damaging UV rays throughout the day, but the concept has yet to be implemented after two years of consideration. The project was scheduled to be completed for Rs.10 lakh by March 2020. 

 The idea was to install a device in each district to get a UV index alert every hour during the day.  According to KSDMA sources, the department ordered the gadgets but had to return them to the vendor owing to technical issues. Heat-related incidents are on the rise in Kerala, and the state has declared the heat wave a state-specific disaster. 

Punalar had the highest temperature of the season on Saturday, March 12, at 38.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Thrissur at38.4 degrees, Kannur at 36.9 degrees, Kottayam at 36.6 degrees, Kozhikode at 35.4 degrees, and Thiruvananthapuram at 35.4 degrees.
