IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall, Thunderstorms & High Wind Alert in These States

All southern states as well as Lakshadweep may experience widespread rainfall along with isolated heavy falls, thunderstorms, or lightning, according to the department.

High Wind Alert!

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert regarding the formation of a low-pressure area over the west-central and east central portions of the Bay of Bengal.

The MeT department said that the monsoon trough is moving the cyclonic circulation from south interior Karnataka and neighbouring areas to interior Karnataka.

All southern states as well as Lakshadweep may experience widespread rainfall along with isolated heavy falls, thunderstorms, or lightning, according to the department. Between September 9 and September 10, Rayalaseema will experience showers, followed by Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and South Interior Karnataka till September 10. Telangana, Coastal and North Interior Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe will also get rainfall till September 12.

Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka will receive rainfall on September 9 and September 10, while Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana will get very heavy rainfall on Saturday.

High wind alert issued

In addition, IMD has issued a high wind alert for north Andhra Pradesh's coastal regions from September 9 to September 10. This area will likely experience stormy weather with winds gusting to 65 kmph at 45 to 55 kmph. Fishermen have been advised not to go out into the sea, and those who have been gone into the sea advised to return back to the coast immediately.

IMD also further said that over the coming days, there will be heavy showers in Maharashtra and Odisha. A Low-Pressure Area has developed across the western and eastern portions of the Bay of Bengal.

Over the next five days, it is anticipated that the northwest Indian plains will have moderate rainfall activity.
