IMD Issues Orange Alert for 19 districts of MP; Rain in Delhi-NCR to Continue

Light rain fell in Delhi and surrounding regions this morning, and the meteorological service predicts that it will continue throughout the day. An 'orange' alert for rain, thundershowers, lightning, and hail has also been issued for 19 districts in Madhya Pradesh.

Rain in Delhi-NCR to Continue; IMD Issues Orange Alert For Madhya Pradesh

Delhi weather update: People in Delhi and surrounding areas witnessed light rainfall this morning, and the meteorological department predicts that it will continue throughout the day. On the other hand, an 'orange' alert for rain, thundershowers, lightning, and hail has also been issued for 19 districts in Madhya Pradesh. 

Alert in Madhya Pradesh

Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Datia, Ashok Nagar, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Raltam, Rajgarh, Agar Malwa, Vidisha, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Niwari, Damoh, and Sagar districts are under orange alert, he added. 

"Light intensity rain would occur over and adjacent regions of entire Delhi and NCR (Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh) Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Narwana," the IMD tweeted. 

Cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in Delhi during the next 24 hours as "There will be partly cloudy sky with the possibility of light rain or drizzle towards evening on Friday. There will be shallow fog in the morning," an IMD bulletin said on Friday. 

Air quality in Delhi

Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality remained 'very bad,' with an overall AQI of 342 on Saturday, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR)-India. 

The IMD predicts that lowest temperatures in northwest India are also likely to climb by 2-4 degrees Celsius during the next three to four days. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts significant rainfall/snowfall in isolated areas over Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad, as well as Himachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, heavy rain will fall in isolated areas of north Punjab and Haryana today. 

Thunderstorms with lightning and hail at isolated locations are very likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, north Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh & Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and with lightning at isolated locations over Jammu & Kashmir, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, and Chhattisgarh, according to the IMD report. 

Strong winds of 45-55 kmph with gusts up to 65 kmph are also expected across the North and West central Arabian Seas along and off Gujarat coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas. 

Conditions are favorable for the cessation of Northeast Monsoon rains over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, and adjoining areas of coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, and South Interior Karnataka today as the cyclonic circulation over north Bangladesh & neighborhood extends up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.
