IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall and Heatwave in These States for the Next 5 Days

Heatwaves are expected to sweep across the country during the next five days, according to the weather service. According to the IMD, conditions are improving for monsoon commencement in Kerala over the next 23 days.

IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall and Heatwave in These States for the Next 5 Days

On Saturday, the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) announced that conditions are improving for the onset of the Southwest Monsoon in Kerala in the next 2-3 days. Heatwaves are expected to sweep across the country during the next five days, according to the weather service. According to the IMD, conditions are improving for monsoon commencement in Kerala over the next 23 days.

Rainfall Predictions:

  • During the same time frame, the conditions are also favorable for the Southwest Monsoon to push farther into the Arabian Sea and the Lakshadweep region.

  • During the next 5 days, moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is quite likely to occur over Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep.

  • During the next few days, the rain will fall in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

  • Heavy rain is also expected in Kerala and Mahe from May 28 to June 1, as well as in Lakshadweep on May 30.

  • Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim over the next 5 days, as well as isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Gangetic West Bengal.

  • Heavy rain is also expected across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on May 28, 30, and 31, over Arunachal Pradesh on June 1, and over Assam-Meghalaya on May 28 and June 1, as well as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on May 29, 31, and June 1.

  • Over the next 5 days, moderate rainfall is expected in Himachal Pradesh.

  • During the next 2-3 days, moderate rain will fall across Uttarakhand, north Punjab, north Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan.

  • On the 28th of May, hailstorms are expected over Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on the 29th.

  • Over Jammu and Kashmir, moderate rainfall is expected, along with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and strong gusts.

Wind Predictions:

During the next 5 days, squally weather (winds of 40-50 km/h gusting to 60 km/h) is highly likely over the southwest Arabian Sea.

On the 29th and 30th of May, similar conditions will prevail over the Southeast Arabian Sea along the Kerala coast and in the Lakshadweep area. On the 28th and 29th of May, it will also be present over the northeast Arabian Sea and the nearby north Gujarat coast.

On the 28th of May, dust storm activity in isolated areas is highly likely to occur over West Rajasthan. Surface winds of 20-30 kph are also expected over Rajasthan on Saturday.
