IMD Predicts Light Rains, Cold Wave in These Northern States From Today; Read To Know More

Residents in most of the northern states in India have reported a drop in temperature and an increase in precipitation, and according to the weather department most recent forecast. These cold wave conditions and light rains are expected to continue. 

According to the Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) most recent forecast, northwest India is expected to experience another cold spell beginning today, January 24, as a result of western disturbances that caused heavy rainfall in the northern plains and snowfall in the hills. 

On January 24 and 25, light and scattered rainfall, as well as snowfall is expected in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand according to IMD forecasts. 

The IMD also stated in its Sunday bulletin that scattered light rainfall is predicted over the next 24 hours in various states including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. 

"Fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall quite probable throughout Northeast India during January 24 and 25," IMD stated in a tweet. During the next 48 hours, isolated thunderstorms/lightning/hailstorms are very likely across Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland." 

Further, IMD has predicted that foggy conditions are likely to prevail in states such as Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan for the next two days, while cold day conditions are likely to continue in these states for January 24. 

According to the MeT department, "cold wave conditions are anticipated in isolated pockets across these areas throughout 25th-27th of January. Dense fog condition is expected in isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh over the next three days with cold day conditions on January 25 and 26." 

Furthermore, it was reported that Delhi received the most rainfall in January since 1995. As per data from the Safdarjung Observatory, which serves as the city's official weather station, the national capital received 69.8 mm of rain on Saturday.
