According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon will begin to leave some regions of northwest India on October 6.

"Conditions are extremely likely to be favourable for the start of withdrawal of southwest monsoon from different regions of northwest India around October 6th 2021," the IMD stated in a tweet.

IMD's weather updates

Conditions remain favourable for the commencement of the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from various regions of Northwest India during the next 24 hours.

A cyclonic circulation exists across the Southwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbors, reaching up to the middle tropospheric levels and leaning southward with height. In the lower tropospheric levels, an easterly trough flows from the upper cyclonic circulation to south Kerala.

Under the influence of these systems, isolated heavy rains are very likely over Tamil Nadu and Kerala on the 5th and 6th of October, as well as over Karnataka on the 5th & 07th of October, 2021. Isolated very heavy rains are also possible over South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala on October 5th, and over Coastal Karnataka on October 6th, 2021.

A cyclonic circulation stretches up to 4.5 km above mean sea level over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and its surroundings. Under its impact, isolated heavy to very heavy rains are expected to occur over south Assam and Tripura during the next 24 hours.
