IMD Weather Report: Snowfall, Rainfall & Cold Wave To Continue In These States Till 4th February

Weather News: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted cold day conditions in most regions of central and northwest India for the next three days, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. 

According to the most recent Met Department bulletin, there will be no substantial shift in minimum temperatures over northwest India till January 30. However, the temperature will begin to fall by two to three degrees Celsius then after. 

The IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall in most parts of northeast India, including Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh, until January 28. Between January 29 and February 4, fresh snowfall is expected across Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and the western Himalayan area as a result of two distinct western disturbances. 

The following are the important IMD alerts for rainfall, cold weather, and snowfall till February 4: 

• Minimum temperatures are expected to fall by two to four degrees Celsius throughout east India during the next two days, with no major change after that.

• Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Vidarbha (in Maharashtra) will experience cold wave conditions in isolated pockets till between January 28 and January 30. 

• Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are expected throughout Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours and in isolated pockets for next four days (until February 1). Apart from the cold wave, the central state is expected to experience cold day conditions over the next two days. 

• East Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will also see cold day conditions during the next 24 hours.

• According to the IMD bulletin, dense fog conditions will persist in isolated pockets during the night and morning hours across the western Himalayan area, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and west Uttar Pradesh over the next 24 hours. During the next two days (on January 28 & 29), the same weather alert has been issued for east Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura.

• Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are predicted to witness isolated light rain on January 28, with similar weather expected across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands till January 31.

• On January 28, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, while isolated to scattered rainfall is expected across Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram. During the next 24 hours, these states are also likely to see isolated thunderstorms or lightning.

• The IMD bulletin predicts isolated light rain over south interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema (in Andhra Pradesh) on January 28 and 29, as well as coastal Andhra Pradesh-Yanam over the next three days. The similar weather alert has been issued for Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-Karaikal, and for Kerala-Mahe (in Puducherrry) till February 1. 

• Owing to a fresh western disturbance starting January 29, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh are very likely to witness isolated rainfall or snowfall between January 29 and 31.

• The IMD further noted that, due to another western disturbance, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall or snowfall is predicted throughout western Himalayan area, with light isolated rainfall expected over adjoining plains between February 2 and 4.
