Ishita Rathi Explains How YouTube Helped Her Bag 8th Rank in the UPSC Exam

Ishita Rathi, 26, the daughter of a Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector and head constable couple who ranked eighth in the UPSC exam 2021, stated she prepared for the exam using online content.

Ishita told a news agency that she did not take any exam preparation classes. "I prepared using prior toppers' tactics, and my main source of information was online material, including YouTube content," she stated, noting that this was her third attempt.

Ishita Rathi stated that she would love to work for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

Ishita’s Parents Inspired Her to Join Indian Administrative Services

Ishita said my parents were a huge source of inspiration for me. I planned to join the civil service after seeing them in police gear. She found civil service to be the most appropriate avenue for me to contribute more to society's wellbeing. I was attracted to IAS because of its diversity.

"My first attempt took place in 2019, just after I finished my postgraduate studies. I passed the written test and advanced to the interview phase in 2020. This was my third effort, and I received an eighth-place finish. I instantly phoned my parents after seeing my results "Ishita, who will be the first IAS officer in her family, expressed her excitement.

She admitted that she was on social media while studying for the tests, but that she was not very active.

Ishita Rathi‘s Educational Background

Ishita studied science in Class XII at DAV Public School in Vasant Kunj, with economics as a supplementary subject. She lives in Chhattarpur, south Delhi, with her family. She earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Delhi University's Lady Shri Ram College and a master's degree in economics from Chennai's Madras School of Economics.

Her mother, assistant sub-inspector Meenakshi Rathi, works for the DCP (Southeast), while her father, traffic police officer I S Rathi, works for the traffic police. Her brother has received his diploma.

Ishita stated that teaching was her backup plan.

"My first choice was government service, followed by teaching. If I hadn't passed the civil service exam, I would have pursued a career in economics."

Ishita's mother, Meenakshi, told a news agency that she was overwhelmed with emotions when she learned of her daughter's eighth rank in the UPSC exam.

"I was at work when I got a call from Ishita. She informed me that she had passed the examination. I became sad and teary-eyed when I learned that she had received an eighth place. I'm proud of her because she'll be an IAS officer. My daughter saw Commissioner Sir today after receiving a call from police headquarters," Meenakshi added. Meenakshi revealed that she used to talk to her daughter about the higher officers and their jobs. "We gave her a lot of support, and her hard work eventually paid off," she added.
