Gamini Singla, a 23-year-old Punjab Engineering College (PEC) Chandigarh alumna, came in third place in the civil services exam 2021.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the results on Monday. Gamini Singla, from Punjab's Anandpur Sahib, graduated from PEC in 2019 with a B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering (CSE).

She stated that becoming an IAS officer was a childhood dream of hers. She was self-studying and preparing at home from 2020 onwards. "My family, particularly my father, has been extremely supportive of me emotionally and academically," she said, adding that her father used to read the newspaper for her to save her time.

"We used to talk about studies, and he understood what was important to me." "That has been extremely beneficial to me," she stated.

Her father, Dr. Alok Singla, and brother, Dr. Neeraj Singla, are both medical officers for the Himachal Pradesh government, and her brother is an IIT Kharagpur graduate.

Professor Rajesh Bhatia, PEC, her teacher, described her as a hardworking and sincere student. "She was the class representative, and she was offered a job during campus placements," he explained, "but she declined because she wanted to pursue civil service."

He also stated that after failing to pass the exam on her first attempt, she did not give up and continued to work hard to pass the exam.

Baldev Setia, the director of PEC, said it is a proud moment for the institute that one of its alumni is among the top scorers in the UPSC civil services examination. "Her accomplishment will serve as an inspiration to many of our graduates in the future," he said.

The UPSC Toppers 2021 list was released on May 30, 2022, by the Union Public Service Commission. According to the UPSC Result 2021, Shruti Sharma has topped the Civil Services Exam and got an AIR 1 this year. Ankita Agarwal comes in second with an AIR 2 for the UPSC Civil Services Exam. The complete list is available on the UPSC website – upsc.gov.in.
