PM Ujjwala Yojana 2.0: By the end of November, the government oil companies had supplied 79 lakh LPG connections under the PM Ujjwala Yojana 2.0. Rameshwar Teli, the Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, provided this information in response to a question in the Lok Sabha.

West Bengal Has Highest Number of Connections

West Bengal received the greatest number of 17,90,000 connections. Following this, LPG gas connections were made available to 13 lakh 14,000 people in Uttar Pradesh. The oil companies have taken many initiatives, according to the Union Minister of State, to encourage improved LPG consumption and to provide it quickly.

"Is it true that the lack of pipelines to bring Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from refineries in various areas, especially the southern region states, is making it pricey for consumers?" Teli was questioned in the Lok Sabha.

"In order to protect the common man from the effects of rising international costs, the government continues to increase the effective price for domestic LPG consumers as needed," the minister stated. Apart from this, the government has placed LPG in the scope of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), putting it in the 5% tax bracket.

What is Ujjwala Yojana?

In August 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Gas Yojana to provide free gas connections to people living in poverty so that they can avoid breathing in smoke. People are also provided free cylinders and stoves as part of the program.

The government plans to offer 1 crore individuals with free gas connections under the Ujjwala Yojana 2.0. To date, 79 lakh people have benefited from it. Under the Ujjwala Yojana 2.0, just 21 lakh people can now get a free cylinder and stove.
