Gujarat's Dairy Cooperative Movement- An example for other states : Lt. Colonel (Dr.) Supern Singh Shekhawat

National Milk Day is celebrated on 26th November every year since 2014 which is the birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien- ‘The Father of White Revolution’, and this year is his 100th Birth Anniversary.

"The White Revolution in India began with Operation Flood, which resulted in our country being milk self-sufficient and this was achieved entirely through the cooperative structure.

The day honors the significance of milk in one's life and also to promote the advantages of milk and the milk business, as well as to raise public knowledge about the significance of milk and milk products.

On this Special Occasion, today (November 26th, 2021) at 11 a.m., Krishi Jagran will host a live session on "Dr. Verghese Kurien's Contributions to the Dairy Sector." The primary objective of this webinar is to raise awareness of Dr. Kurien's contributions as the "Father of the White Revolution in India" and "Architect of the Modern Dairy Industry" as he celebrates his 100th birthday today.

Many Eminent speakers will be a part of this webinar and Lt. Colonel (Dr.) Supern Singh Shekhawat, Head of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kotputli, Jaipur is one of them.

Supern Singh said, "I have a very small representation in agriculture because I was in Indian Army and I used to serve in valley. But Iam very grateful to be here and also very happy that farmers are also present in this webinar."

"Talking about Dr. Kurien, his contribution in dairy sector are unbelievable. He did a tremendous work. India is No.1 in Milk production only because of his efforts."

"Dairy co-operative movement in Gujarat was a success. The Gujarat cooperative movement began with a modest attempt to organize 20 villages in Gujarat's Kheda area to cooperatively produce and deliver milk to Bombay. But except Gujarat co-operative movement is not happening anywhere else. Farmers should get right price for their milk. "he added.

"Farmers should work on Native Breeds and Selective Breeding. And Gujarat is doing great in these sections. We have a lot of milk, but it's not of high quality. Cattle should be cultivated where they belong since they will grow the best there. We must begin maintaining high-yielding animals." he concluded.
