Torture of Cold! Intense Cold Wave & Dense Fog in North India, Schools Likely to Remain Shut
Extremely cold waves are predicted over the next 48 hours, and the minimum temperatures in the suburbs of Delhi and Gurugram can reach -1 degrees Celsius.
Weather News: IMD has issued cold wave alerts for numerous cities after a brief break in the severe cold waves that had been affecting Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and other northern areas of India. Over the next 48 hours, Delhi and other parts of western and northern India are set to suffer severely chilly waves.
On January 14, reports of dense fog have been made in Bihar, Tripura, south-coastal Odisha, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. In Rajasthan, isolated places will experience cold waves.
Chilly weather conditions in these states
Several states, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, Assam, West Bengal, Odisha, and Karnataka, are at risk for severe weather, according to the meteorological department. The most extreme weather will be experienced in parts of western and northern India.
In the meanwhile, there is a deep blanket of snow covering the mountains. Snow cover Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand's higher mountains. In Uttarakhand, a frozen coating of snow has been placed on top of Kedarnath-Badrinath.In Himachal Pradesh, in addition to Manali and Auli, snow also falls in Lahaul, Rohtang, Narkanda, Dharamshala, and Manali. Keylong was the only location in the state where the temperature fell below minus 7 degrees.
The lowest temperature might hit zero degrees in several Central Delhi districts, including Safdarjung, according to meteorologist Navdeep Dahiya. As per media reports, the lowest temperature in the suburbs of Delhi and Gurugram might drop as low as -1 degrees Celsius simultaneously. Major parts of Delhi might see temperatures between 0 and 1 degrees Celsius.
Will Winter School Holidays in Delhi be Extended After Jan 16?
The majority of the schools will resume on January 16, 2023, after being closed until January 15 due to the chilly and foggy weather. However, given the temperature drop and IMD forecast for the coming week, Delhi's schools may have their winter break extended.
