Free online update of Aadhaar details now extended until June 14, 2025, originally set to end on December 14, 2024.

Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced an extension for the free online update of Aadhaar details. Originally set to end on December 14, 2024, the deadline has now been pushed to June 14, 2025, providing millions of Aadhaar holders an opportunity to ensure their information is accurate.

The free update service is accessible only on the MyAadhaar portal. Residents who wish to update their demographic details such as name, gender, date of birth, or address can do so online without incurring a fee until the extended deadline. Offline updates at Aadhaar centres will incur charges after June 14, 2025.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), UIDAI shared, "UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till June 14, 2025; to benefit millions of Aadhaar Number Holders. This free service is available only on MyAadhaar portal. UIDAI has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their Aadhaar."

Why Updating Aadhaar is Important

UIDAI recommends Aadhaar holders review and update their details every 10 years. Regular updates enhance authentication accuracy, simplify access to services, and ensure Aadhaar remains a reliable identification tool. While not mandatory, updating Aadhaar information is encouraged to ensure seamless service delivery and ease of living.

How to Update Aadhaar Details Online

Updating address and other demographic details on the MyAadhaar portal is simple and free until the deadline. Here's a step-by-step guide:

  1. Visit the MyAadhaar portal.

  2. Log in using Aadhaar credentials and verify your details.

  3. Select the 'Update Aadhaar Online' option under the demographic update section.

  4. Upload a scanned copy of address proof and consent as required.

  5. Save the Service Request Number (SRN) generated for tracking your application.

For offline updates, such as biometric information (fingerprints, iris scans, or photographs), residents must visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Aadhaar Sewa Kendra.

Offline Biometric Updates

Biometric updates require the following steps:

  1. Download the Aadhaar Enrolment Form from the official UIDAI website.

  2. Complete and submit the form along with the necessary documents at the nearest Aadhaar centre.

  3. Provide biometric data, including fingerprints and iris scans, for verification.

  4. Collect the acknowledgment slip containing your Update Request Number (URN) for tracking purposes.

UIDAI has consistently highlighted the importance of keeping Aadhaar information up to date. This practice ensures effective service delivery and enhances Aadhaar's functionality as a critical identification system. With the extended deadline, Aadhaar holders now have ample time to make necessary updates without additional costs.
