In order to facilitate smooth and easy application & updation of Aadhaar cards, the Unique Identification Authority of India or UIDAI has introduced Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) in 7 cities of India.

How Aadhaar Seva Kendras Works?

The Aadhaar Seva Kendras runs just like Passport Seva Kendras where people can book an online appointment to avail various services and is currently functional in Delhi, Chandigarh, Agra, Hisar, Bhopal, Vijayawada and Chennai. UIDAI informed that Guwahati and Patna centres would also be made operational this week.

The UIDAI plans to open 114 such centres in 53 cities across the country by the end of this year (2019) at an estimated project cost of Rs. 300 to 400 crore.

A person can apply for a new Aadhaar card via these UIDAI-run centres and also update his name, mobile number, address, date of birth, email id, gender & biometric (like photo, fingerprints & iris) data.

How to book appointment in Aadhaar Seva Kendras?

The aadhaar card applicants as well as existing holders will have to take an online appointment at UIDAI's official website to book a date & time slot for availing different Aadhaar-related services.

At present, Delhi has two such Aadhaar centres - one at Inderlok Metro Station and the other at Akshardham Metro Station.

The Aadhaar-issuing body said that the ASKs have a token system wherein people will first get a token for their Aadhaar related work & then will be moved to a ‘verifier’ for document checking. After the verification is done, the resident will have to go to ‘cash counter’ for payment of Rs. 50 (charges for Aadhaar update, if required) & then will be assigned an ‘operator counter’ from the 16 operator work stations. The complete token movement will be displayed on digital display screens for easy movement & line management.

The Aadhaar Seva Kendras have a capacity to deal with up to 1,000/500 enrollments & update requests every day and it will remain open for 6 days a week that includes the including weekends (Saturday & Sunday) from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. The centres will be closed on Tuesdays (every week) and public holidays.

You may take online advance appointment & visit the Aadhaar Seva Kendras as per your convenience.

As on 31st May 2019, the UIDAI had generated a total of 123.82 crore Aadhaar to people of the country.
