UP's Agriculture Minister Advocates Solar Pump Technology for Bundelkhand Farmers

Uttar Pradesh's Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi urges adoption of sustainable practices while inaugurating an agricultural exhibition in Jhansi.

Uttar Pradesh's Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, inaugurated the northern regional farmers' fair and agricultural exhibition in Jhansi. During the inauguration, he emphasised the importance of embracing solar pump technology for irrigation among farmers in Bundelkhand. Shahi highlighted that this move would significantly alleviate agricultural costs in the region.

Bundelkhand, renowned for its conducive environment for cultivating pulses and oilseeds, stands to benefit greatly from such initiatives. The minister also revealed plans for the establishment of an industrial park and an international airport in the region, promising further development opportunities.

Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture

Shahi's address at the farmers' fair, organised by Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, underscored the theme of sustainable agriculture for continuous development. He commended the university for pioneering initiatives such as a mobile health clinic vehicle, aimed at improving farmers' well-being. Encouraging farmers to leverage various schemes offered by the Uttar Pradesh government, Shahi assured them of continued support for their prosperity.

Showcase of Agricultural Innovation

The exhibition, hosting 125 stalls from diverse entities including ICAR, agricultural universities, FPOs, and private organisations across eight states, served as a platform to display innovative agri-based products and cutting-edge farming technologies. A culinary contest featuring millets and the felicitation of seven progressive farmers added vibrancy to the event. Additionally, the minister inaugurated a crucial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the university and 27 FPOs, signaling collaborative efforts for future agricultural development.

Emphasis on Sustainability

In his address, Vice-Chancellor AK Singh stressed the significance of sustainable agriculture in addressing contemporary concerns regarding environmental impact and food systems. Singh highlighted that sustainable agriculture transcends mere farming practices, offering a holistic approach capable of rejuvenating and preserving land resources for future generations.

The event saw the presence of distinguished personalities including Director of Agriculture Jitendra Kumar Tomar and Director General of UP Agricultural Research Council, Sanjay Singh. Their participation underscored the collective commitment to fostering agricultural innovation and sustainability in the region.

Through collaborative efforts and advocacy for sustainable practices, the agricultural exhibition in Jhansi not only showcased the potential of Bundelkhand's farming community but also paved the way for future advancements in the realm of agriculture and rural development.
